Niva (निवा) Sun, Radiance, Light

Growing up as a mixed race person (Fijian-Indian & NZ European) in small town Aotearoa, I had a difficult time building connection with my culture. I could understand some Hindi here and there; mostly if I knew I was in trouble, or being told dinner was ready, but this hybrid identity hasn't always been an easy one to navigate. Never really feeling enough of  one or the other. 

Something I always have identified with was the beauty practices of my family. I have memories from when I was small of sitting on my Nani's (Grandmother) bed while she oiled her hair, and then did mine and my sister's too. We both have continued the practice into adulthood, wearing our long waves with pride. Through years of testing, I've created my own blend which is a fan favorite with my family and am proud now to share it beyond.
